There’s a saying in Sicily that lemons are not real lemons unless they’re Sicilian.

Lemons were first brought by the Arabs to Sicily in the 10th century. The Mediterranean climate, sunny hot days and cold nights, coupled with volcanic soil, gives the Sicilian lemon a typical sweetness and taste that is very difficult to find anywhere else in the world. They are an integral part of the island’s landscape and culture and just perfect as typical Sicilian wedding favour.

It’s difficult to think of Sicilian food without thinking about Sicilian olive oil.

Greek settlers imported their beloved olive trees to Sicily in the 6th century BC and olive oil has been produced on the island ever since. The olive harvest in Sicily takes place between the middle of September and the end of November. Most important producers harvest the olives by hand and there is a growing number of organic oils being produced on the island. If you are visiting Sicily during the olive harvest, be sure to head for an oil mill to sample some freshly pressed, deliciously fruity and aromatic olive oil!

The Sicilian Trinacria Symbol is rich with folklore, and Sicilians held its tradition with fervour.

The Greek word Trinacria means triangle and refers to the shape of the island. The symbol is the head of Medusa (a head of snakes) surrounded by three bent running legs and three stalks of wheat. The three bent running legs represent the three capes of Sicily: Peloro (Punta del Faro, Messina – northeast), Passero (Syracuse – south) and Lilibeo (Marsala – west). The three stalks of wheat represent the extreme fertility of the land, much valued by the Romans for whom it served as the granary of the Roman Empire. The Medusa head in the middle of the Trinacria implies protection by Athena, the patron goddess of Sicily.

Sicily is famous for its ceramics, designed in the classic Maiolica glazed style with delicate baroque patterns.

The Sicilian ceramics industry is centred in four main towns: Caltagirone, Santo Stefano di Camastra, Burgio and Sciacca. Each has its own distinct style, particularly where traditional colours are concerned. A much-loved Sicilian ceramic speciality is the ubiquitous pigna (pine cone), which symbolises vitality, good health, immortality and more besides. You will come across them not only in shops, but also atop gate pillars, on bedsteads and adorning balcony railings. They come in all colours, patterns and sizes and are commonly given as an augury of good luck.

Typical Sicilian ‘Thank You gifts’ are available in all price ranges starting at 4,00 euro per piece. We hope to have given you some ideas and inspiration for creating an original Sicilian wedding favour which your guests will definitely appreciate.

Please note that alle prices are per piece and subject to changes.

Wedding Day What If’s

And other stress-evoking questions concerning your wedding day!

On our way home after an inspiring meeting with one of our wedding couples. Again their wedding day  has taken shape a bit more. Details are being filled in, questions are being answered and the bridal couple-to- be is getting more and more enthusiastic. As always we feel enormously inspired and can’t wait to progress the planning of their wedding day.

Still, we have also come across a well-known feature tonight: last minute wedding-stress. The “what if” subject has been discussed in detail. It is something we as weddingplanners will encounter sooner or later and it is our task to try and take away as much tension as possible.

FOR MONTHS, SOMETIMES EVEN YEARS,WEDDING COUPLES LOOK FORWARD TO THEIR WEDDING DAY

They want to be fully prepared and don’t want to settle for anything less than a perfect wedding day. Hopefully, that one special day will be one of the most beautiful days in their lives. Unfortunately there are always aspects that can’t be controlled, however prepared you are. That does not matter. Matters only become a problem, when you make them a problem. There is always a solution. Wedding planners have the capacity to be creative and are known for their problem solving. Let’s discuss a few “worst-case scenario’s”.

What if….
My wedding dress doesn’t fit on the day itself!

Our advice: don’t go crash- dieting shortly before the wedding.  A bride always feels most comfortable during the first fitting session. Try to maintain that weight. Should things come to the worst, than rely on our toolkit and make use of handy tips and                                                             trics provided to us by well- known bridal stores.

What if….
A make-up stain ruins my wedding dress!

Don’t fret! Talcum powder, a special tailor’s chalk or TMC 520 stain tissues should do the trick.

What if….

Our tight wedding day time-schedule is being endangered by the hair- and make-up session!

Our advice: go for a trial session first. It will give you a good idea of how long it will take. Then add some extra time in your wedding day time-line. That will take the pressure off and will allow you to look and feel great all day long.

What if….
The bride and / or groom or our wedding guests will run late because of a traffic jam!

Our advice: plan ahead and again allow for more time than usual on this particular route. Check planned work on the roads to your wedding venue.

What if….
It rains cats and dogs on our wedding day!

Way ahead we discuss the alternatives with the venue of your choice. Our advice: always choose a wedding venue where you will be happy with the alternatives indoors.

What if….

Our wedding photographer does not meet our wishes and expectations!

Our advice: never economize on a wedding photographer. Hire a professional! Arrange for a meeting or even a trial photoshoot. In 25 years’ time you will still want to look at your radiant “self”, your happy wedding guests, the beautiful wedding venue and the magic of the day. Make a list of what you expect. Choose a supplier from our database of trusted, reliable and TOP class wedding photographers.

What if….

Suppliers don’t do what they promised to do!

For each of our weddings ‘Sicily Love Weddings’ writes an extensive script. The plan of action is regularly discussed with all the wedding suppliers. The week before the actual wedding we personally contact all of them  again. We always carry all telephone numbers, even those that belong to alternative local suppliers.

What if….
Drunken guests threaten to ruin our party!

Don’t panic. Without revealing any details we dare say that we have become masters in tactfully solving these kind of problems.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE BIGGEST FEAR OF ALL

What if….
I’ll be a nervous wreck and won’t stop crying during the entire ceremony!

Our advice: use water-proof make-up, keep tissue’s at hand, breath in and out and remember: emotions are allowed on your wedding day. Shouldn’t there be any, you would be the first                                                                   tearless bride.

THINK OF WHAT YOUR GUESTS WILL REMEMBER IN 10 YEARS’ TIME

The flowers in your bridal bouquet? Details of your wedding dress? The colour of the napkins at the wedding dinner table?  No, definitely not. They will however remember the love you shared, the happiness they saw  and the emotions they felt on your special wedding day!

THE SICILY LOVE WEDDINGPLANNERS WISH ALL HER WEDDING COUPLES AN UNFORGETTABLE WEDDING, without any stress!
